Qizhen Wang

Qizhen Wang, 21 years old, commenced his piano studies at the age of 4 and has been under the guidance of Professor Peng Chieh Sun since he was 9. He studied at the Music Middle School Attached to Xinghai Conservatory of Music and was selected for the innovative talent training program there. Currently, he is pursuing his studies at the New England Conservatory of Music with Professors Alexander Korsantia and Marc-Andre Hamelin. He achieved third place (as first place was not awarded), as well as the Best Chopin Etude and Best Commissioned Work awards, in the 7th Tbilisi International Competition, representing the only Chinese contestant from the semi-final stage. His accolades extend to numerous prizes in both domestic and international competitions, including the First Prize in the Middle School Division of Yamaha Scholarship in 2019, the First Prize U17 in the 6th China Merchants Bank Sunflower Cup National Children Piano Competition in 2018, and the First Prize of Yangtze River Piano Concerto Scholarship in 2018. Qizhen was also the Sixth Prize winner in the Junior Division of the 1st Fryderyk Chopin Beijing International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in 2016, the Third Prize in the Junior Middle Group of Yanzi Cup Piano Competition in 2014, the Second Prize in the Junior Group of Changjiang Cup Piano Competition in 2013, and the First Prize in the Youth Group of Shenzhen Piano Open Village in 2012. In 2020, he was selected for the Seoul International Piano Competition in South Korea, making him the youngest participant. Throughout his musical journey, Qizhen has received guidance from esteemed masters including Dina Yoffe, Frank Wibaut, Aquiles DELLE VIGNE, Michel Dalberto, Leonel Morales, Klaus Kauffman, Pavel Gililov, Claudius Tanski, Wolfgang Bruner, Rolf Plagge, Eleanor Wong, Huang Yilun, Ying Wu, and others. Beyond his musical pursuits, Qizhen's interests encompass conducting, which he studied for 7 years with the renowned conductor Guanrong Yao, and singing, which he honed for 2 years under the instruction of Professor Xizhen Wang. He also enjoys reading, acting, hosting, and playing football. Qizhen actively participates in various school-organized activities and charitable performances, consistently delivering outstanding performances. In October 2023, Qizhen won 5th prize in the Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition.
